For those of you who don't have small children, I'll tell you that scripture study can be very insightful in ways that you would never think of. I think that is one reason we have children, so that things that have become routine and familiar will suddenly become new. Anyway, this last week Lucy made some comments while we were reading the Book of Mormon that were pretty cute.
When we were telling the girls that the prophet Lehi was teaching his children because he was old and was going to die soon, Lucy asked with worry. "Who is going to babysit his kids?" referring to Lehi dying. We explained to her that Lehi's kids were grown-ups and that they can take care of themselves. Lehi was more like a grandpa. That satisfied her.
Then this one the other day. We read in 2 Nephi 1:20: "Inasmuch as ye shall keep my commandments ye shall prosper in the land, but inasmuch as ye will not keep my commandments you shall be cut off from my presence." Lucy immediately yelled is dismay, "Cut off their presents?!" Just as I was about to correct her we realized that what she said was pretty accurate. If we don't obey God's commandments he will withhold blessings, cutting us off from his gifts and blessings to us.
Lucy is a smart little kid.
Aww that's super cute. We're excited when Asher is old enough to read and understand the scriptures better and can help us understand them in different but inspiring ways.
